The Power of Consideration: It’s Not Only What We Think, It’s How and Why We Think It

Watch the podcast

I have always been fascinated by thinking about thinking.

Perhaps that goes back to my teenage years, when many of my friends were out enjoying themselves, and I was reading philosophy and studying Krishnamurti, searching for answers to life’s deepest questions. Later, the halls of Alcoholics Anonymous reinforced the importance of self-examination with those three simple words:

THINK! THINK! THINK!

And most of us have heard the familiar advice to think before we speak, act, or make an important decision. But lately, I have been thinking about something deeper. How often are we actually invited to reconsider what we believe?

That question has become increasingly important to me as I have been working with the Twelve+ Codes for Be~coming and exploring what I call the

Power of Consideration

Condsideration is powerful because consideration isn’t simply about what we think, it’s about how and why we think the way we do. It is also about whether we are willing to keep examining, refining, and sometimes changing what we believe. Throughout our lives, we are given so many ways to understand ourselves. Astrology. The Enneagram. Myers-Briggs. Gene Keys. Human Design. Personality assessments. Psychological and spiritual frameworks of every kind. I celebrate anything that encourages greater self-awareness. These systems can offer meaningful insights and beautiful perspectives. But they also invite a deeper question:

Is the goal simply to discover who we are, or is it to participate consciously in who we are be~coming?

Self-knowledge is a wonderful beginning. But it isn’t the end of the journey. Understanding ourselves is different from intentionally developing ourselves. This is where The Code of Consideration becomes so essential. Click here to purchase the Living Field Guide Six e-book.

Consideration reminds us that no description of ourselves, no label, no chart, no personality type, and no belief system should ever become the final word about who we are. Every insight can become an invitation to keep growing. The question shifts from: Who am I? to: Who am I be~coming? That shift changes everything.

The Courage to Reconsider

I believe one of the greatest challenges of our time isn’t simply what people believe. It is the relationship we have with our beliefs. Do we hold them so tightly that growth becomes impossible? Or can we hold them lightly enough that wisdom can continue to emerge?

The Code of Consideration invites us into a lifelong practice of refining our beliefs as we grow in wisdom, experience, and awareness. Consideration doesn’t teach us what to think. It invites us to become curious about how and why we think what we think. And it asks us to humbly keep growing beyond what we think we already know.  This requires a willingness to evolve and admit that something we once believed may no longer be serving us. I don’t see this as weakness, I see it as evolution.

Consideration Is the Guardian

The more deeply I engage with the Twelve+ Codes, the more alive they become for me. The Twelve Principles of Celestial Psychology® describe humanity’s evolutionary possibility. The Twelve+ Codes cultivate our participation in that possibility. And Consideration is what keeps that participation alive. Without consideration, any evolutionary code can become rigid or static. With consideration, every code remains a living invitation rather than a fixed conclusion. Consideration becomes, in this sense, the Code of Codes. It is the gentle hand resting on the kaleidoscope asking:

Are you willing to turn it once more? I hope you are.

Turning the Kaleidoscope

Each of the Twelve Codes carries an archetype and a particular invitation for our be~coming.

The Phoenix, representing The Code of Change, reminds us that we can rise from the ashes. But when change becomes difficult, Consideration asks us to look again.

The Ancient Tree, representing The Code of Continuity, reminds us of what endures. But when continuity becomes attachment, Consideration helps us discern what truly deserves to remain.

The Warrior, representing The Code of Competition, strengthens our resolve to become better, brighter, and wiser. But when competition becomes about defeating others, Consideration redirects us toward self-mastery.

The Pilgrim, representing The Code of Commitment, carries a lantern along the path. But when commitment hardens into certainty, Consideration reopens curiosity.

The Conductor, representing The Code of Coherence, brings energy, light, frequency, and vibration into harmony. But when coherence becomes a closed system, Consideration opens it to new possibilities.

The Mirror, representing The Code of Congruency, reflects our essence. But when congruency becomes a fixed identity, Consideration calls us toward greater authenticity,  integrity, and continued be~coming.

The Kaleidoscope, representing The Code of Complexity, continually shifts its patterns. When complexity feels overwhelming, Consideration encourages patient observation and helps us make meaning from what we see.

The Magician, representing The Code of Creativity, reminds us that we participate in creation. But when imagination becomes disconnected from reality, Consideration helps transform imagination into meaningful action.

The Healer, representing The Code of Compassion, softens our hearts while reminding us that love and wisdom belong together. When compassion loses healthy boundaries, Consideration restores them.

The Weaver, representing The Code of Cooperation, reminds us that we are connected. But when cooperation slips into conformity, Consideration honors thoughtful individuality.

The Circle, representing The Code of Community, reminds us of our shared humanity. When community becomes an “us and them,” Consideration invites us back into connection.

And finally, the Messenger, representing The Code of Communication, reminds us that what we become is what we transmit. When communication becomes one-sided rather than genuine dialogue, Consideration asks:

Are we transmitting and receiving wisdom, or are we simply reinforcing certainty?

Without Consideration, communication can become propaganda. With it, communication becomes a living exchange.

From Inner Consideration to Outer Considerateness

There is another beautiful connection hidden within the word “consideration”. We also use the word considerate to describe kindness, respect, and thoughtfulness toward one another. I don’t think that connection is accidental. The more willing we are to consider our own beliefs, assumptions, and perspectives, the more considerate we naturally become in our relationships.

Inner consideration naturally gives rise to outward considerateness.

When I am willing to pause and question my own assumptions, I become less attached to proving myself right. I become more willing to listen. More willing to learn. More willing to turn the kaleidoscope and see another perspective. And perhaps most importantly, more willing to remain curious.

Entering the Temple of Be~coming

experience on YouTube

One of the most amazing parts of this work for me has been creating the Temple of Be~coming, where the Twelve Codes are represented as radiant pillars. I imagine entering that sacred space and allowing myself to simply notice. Which archetype calls to me today? What am I being invited to reconsider? The experience begins with breath. A slowing down. A settling in. And then, one by one, the pillars reveal their wisdom:

The Phoenix, archetype for the Code of Change, whispers:

Nothing true is ever lost through the fire of change.

The Ancient Tree, archetype for the Code of Continuity, reminds me:

What is essential remains.

The Warrior, archetype for the Code of Competition, says:

Every challenge reveals another strength within you.

The Pilgrim, archetype for the Code of Commitment, reminds me:

Small, faithful steps create extraordinary journeys.

The Conductor, archetype for the Code of Coherence, teaches:

Harmony is stronger than control.

The Mirror, archetype for the Code of Congruency, invites:

Allow your inner truth to become your outer life.

The Kaleidoscope, archetype for the Code of Complexity, reminds me:

The greater the perspective, the clearer the pattern.

The Magician, archetype for the Code of Creativity, declares:

You are here to bring into existence something that has never existed before.

The Healer, archetype for the Code of Compassion, reminds me:

What heals one heart helps heal the whole.

The Weaver, archetype for the Code of Cooperation, teaches:

Together, we become more than we could ever become alone.

The Circle, archetype for the Code of Community, reminds us:

We rise together.

And the Messenger, archetype for the Code of Communication, offers one final reminder:

What you become is what you transmit.

These aren’t simply beautiful words.

They are invitations to participate consciously in our own unfolding.

We Are Never Finished Be~coming

My fondest hope for myself—and for all humanity—is that we never become so certain that we forget to turn the kaleidoscope once more. Because becoming better, brighter, and wiser is never finished.

And that’s the really good news.

We don’t have to arrive. We don’t have to find one final definition of ourselves and stay there forever. We can keep asking better questions. We can stay open to new understanding. We can discover better patterns. We can reconsider. We can turn the kaleidoscope again.

For me, consideration is the gentle reminder that our beliefs, our identities, our experiences, and even our deepest understandings are not meant to become prisons. They are meant to help us grow.

The Twelve+ Codes are not simply ideas to understand. They are capacities we can cultivate and ways of participating in our own development.

The Code of Consideration keeps them alive.

And so I invite you to pause today and ask yourself:

What am I certain about that I might be willing to reconsider?

What belief has served me well, but may be ready to evolve?

Who am I be~coming?

And perhaps most importantly:

Am I willing to turn the kaleidoscope once more?

Because there is always another perspective. Another possibility. Another pattern waiting to emerge. And there is always more becoming.

Better.

Brighter.

Wiser.

More discerning.

And, ultimately, more considerate of ourselves and one another.

On purpose. And with purpose.
