What’s Up With Rabbit Holes?

An Insider’s Guide to Investigating What We Believe, Why We Believe It, and What We Might Be Missing

Do we own our beliefs—or do they own us?

Wonder opens doors. Discernment helps us decide how to walk through them.

If you are drawn to consciousness, hidden knowledge, and extraordinary possibilities, you know the excitement of discovering a new way to understand the world. You may also know the uneasiness of wondering whether a compelling explanation deserves your trust.

What’s Up with Rabbit Holes? invites us to explore what we believe, why we believe it, and what we might be missing—while keeping our curiosity alive. Get The Book

An invitation to investigate together

What’s Up with Rabbit Holes?

An Insider’s Guide to Investigating What We Believe, Why We Believe It, and What We Might Be Missing.

By Celeste Emelia Mattingly, LCSW

We all encounter ideas that promise insight, belonging, hope, or a glimpse behind the curtain. Sometimes those ideas expand our understanding. Sometimes our attachment to them makes it harder to ask another question.

This book brings the investigation closer to home: to our own assumptions, our sources of certainty, and the stories we pass along.

This isn’t a book about their rabbit holes. It’s a book about ours.

To help us investigate, the book offers practical tools for pausing, examining claims, considering sources, and noticing how our hopes, fears, and need for belonging influence what we believe.

The Twelve+ Codes for Be~coming Better, Brighter, and Wiser provide a framework for exploring how we grow, relate, and communicate—with Consideration inviting us to look again whenever certainty closes the conversation.

These tools help us ask better questions, distinguish evidence from interpretation, and choose more consciously what we carry forward and share.

Along the way, you’ll meet the Curator,

our companion in curiosity, whose invitation is simple: “Let’s look again.”

The kaleidoscope reminds us that a shift in perspective can reveal patterns we hadn’t noticed. The compass invites us to orient ourselves by our values as we explore unfamiliar territory.

Together with the Twelve+ Codes, these companions offer ways to investigate our beliefs, reconsider our assumptions, and choose what we carry forward.

A few questions worth carrying with us:

  • What draws me to this explanation?
  • What do I know, and what am I believing, experiencing, or hoping?
  • What might I be overlooking?
  • Does this teaching encourage my discernment and independence?
  • What am I contributing when I share this claim?
  • What would help me reconsider?

We can practice skepticism without cynicism, openness without gullibility, and conviction with room to learn.

Look again. Reconsider. Reorient.

Reconsideration can become an act of growth: an opportunity to refine our understanding and participate more consciously in our own becoming.

I am not asking you to believe me. I am asking you to investigate with me.
